Back in June, twenty-one combat Vietnam Veterans from across America retraced their footsteps in the Mekong Delta. These vets represented each company of the 4th/47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division that fought in a major battle near Ap Bac Village 50 years ago on June 19.
Also in attendance were two former Viet Cong soldiers. Together with our Vets, they honored all lives lost during that battle in an emotional ceremony at a memorial museum near the village.
Our friends from Bravo Company graciously provided us with photos and stories about their experience, and we are honored to be able to share them. Over the years, we’ve provided these Vets with Flying Circle “goodie bags” during their reunions. It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for their sacrifice and service. We were honored and humbled to know that some of the Vets even carried our packs along on this journey.
The trip was made possible through The Greatest Generations Foundation. They traveled with the Vets and chronicled their emotional journey in this touching tribute. What an amazing experience it is to watch these enemies turned friends join together to remember their fallen American and Vietmanese brothers in war. All together, 47 U.S. Soldiers and 255 Vietnamese Soldiers perished in the battle.
Special thanks to Mike Masello.
